Learn the ancient technique of block printing in this beginners’ class. You will create your own designs based on geometric shapes before selecting your favorite design to carve on a block to use as a printing block. You will make a set of cards to take home. Class is limited to 15 students. Materials fee of $25, payable to instructor at first class.
Learn how to and make candles. This class includes basic candle safety, different types of waxes and their uses, and wick choices based on type of wax and applications (i.e., votives, containers, and pillars). You will make several types of candles and possibly some wax tarts. Materials fee of $40, payable to instructor at first class.
Important: Please wear durable, protective shoes. Sandals are not allowed in the chemistry laboratory.
Create a crepe paper flower that looks realistic and does not require a green thumb. Learn about different types of crepe paper and how to manipulate the paper into individual petals that form a realistic-looking flower. You will make 1-3 flowers and take them home at the end of class. Class is limited to 15 students. Materials fee of $15, payable to instructor at first class.
This course is for students who are aware of basic sewing skills, can sew a straight seam, and are familiar with using a rotary cutter. In this class you will focus on accurate seams, straight cuts and accurate piecing. You will follow a pattern written by Elanor Burns. During the first class you will learn about color choices and choose your fabrics. You will work on your own project at your own pace. At the end of the course you will leave with a complete lap size quilt approximately 45 X 57 inches. Class is limited to 12 students. Course supplies (including sewing machines and quilting tools) are included for class use. At the first class, you will purchase fabrics for the top and bottom and batting (price will vary).
In a fun social environment, learn basic sewing skills, machine operation, sewing terms, how to sew a straight seam, cutting techniques, proper use of a rotary cutter, how to read pattern instructions, how to follow the pattern instructions, simple troubleshooting on the sewing machine and machine needle information. In this class you will work on cutting squares the same size and sewing straight seams. The goal is to give you the training you need to work on your own projects at home. You will work on your own project at your own pace. At the end of the course you will leave with a complete lap size quilt approximately 45 X 57 inches.
Class is limited to 12 students.
Sewing machines and quilting tools for class use will be provided. Course supplies (including thread, fabric, batting, and backing) are available from the instructor for $30, at the first class.
