This is an on-location, field trip painting class which offers painters of any skill level the opportunity to learn watercolor painting. The class will travel to nearby locations as a group where you will explore the natural beauty of our local green spaces, learn painting and design techniques, and create beautiful landscapes.

Gentle Mat Pilates is a blend of exercises to increase core strength, flexibility, breath control, and correct alignment to improve balance and posture. Mat Pilates is practiced by people of all ages. Each class is an hour of exercise around core strength, balance, gentle movement, and relaxation. Those taking this class should be able to get up and down from the floor safely. Wear loose, comfortable clothing; bring a Yoga/exercise mat and water bottle.

This is a low impact aerobics class that involves deep stretching, low impact dance moves, stomach and leg floor work.
This defense class is unique in that it includes the three P's of self defense: philosophical, psychological, and physical. It is a combination of understanding how persons should be treated, evaluating situations, and carrying out a physical defense if the situation requires it.You will learn about the ehtical justification for self defense, the psychological attitutdes and techniques required, and finally, how to perform some of those techniques.

We live in a land of earthquakes. Learn how they work from an expert. This is a survey of California earthquakes and earthquake dynamics. You will learn about various historical earthquakes, major fault systems throughout California as well as earthquake dynamics and interpretation of seismograms (locating epicenters and calculating magnitude of earthquakes). We will have an 8-hour field tip, within the Carrizo Plain, investigating various geomorphic features along the San Andreas Fault system, ending in the city of Parkfield ---“The earthquake capitol.”
Learn about early Bakersfield, from the time of Father Garces. We will emphasize downtown and East Bakersfield, including many buildings that could be eligible for inclusion in the local Historic Perservation Register. You will learn about the effect that natural disasters (earthquakes, floods) have had on our historic buildings, the design motifs that distinguish various architectural styles, and how to identify those styles. The final session will be a guided walking tour of historic Bakersfield buildings by the instructor.

This is a field trip class in which you will travel to various sites in Kern County to do landscape photography under the guidance of a professional photographer. Composition, proper time of day for photography, and proper use of filters will be discussed. At the last session, the images will be critiqued and reviewed.
