On this field trip, you will examine the geology and wildflowers of the San Andreas Fault Zone between Parkfield and Maricopa via Carrizo Plain National Monument. Be equipped for hot or cold weather, and be ready to hike up to 1/2 mile on irregular ground to and from some stops. You will drive your own car and provide your own meals, water, hat, hiking boots, coat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. No ride sharing except for family members. Masks, frequent hand washing, and hand sanitizers are also required. Before the trip you will download a field trip guidebook to use that your instructor will e-mail you. Everyone will meet at the Parkfield Café in Parkfield, CA and end at Maricopa City Park. Budget 2 hours to get to Parkfield (leave Bakersfield at 7 AM and plan to arrive back in Bakersfield at 6 PM). Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this class is subject to CDC guidelines and may be canceled at any given time.
